During the class of Math 1 the concept that helped me improve my math skills was Solving Systems of Linear Equations: Substitution. An example to solving a problem for this lesson is you have your equation then you figure out what y or what x is. Once you figure out what your variable equals then you substitute the amount your variable equals (x or y) and then if you get your final answer like 35=35 then your substitution is correct.
Some challenges that I faced is that sometimes I don’t understand the direct instruction so when Ms. Manabe explains them in class. I pay attention because then I understand them more when she explains them. The skills that helped me be successful are my note taking skills. I learned how to use a graphing calculator. I learned how to solve for y and x and also some new substitution methods. I also learned how to use a graphing calculator through the edgenuity instructions. This tells me that I learn some things independently and some things with the help of other people. Through this lesson I also learned not to be afraid to ask for help when needing it.
The two school wide learning objectives that I demonstrate are being a self directed learner who communicates effectively and mastering skills needed in career and college. I demonstrated being a self directed learner who communicates effectively by taking notes when watching the videos and going to Ms. Manabes office hours when I’m done taking a quiz. This helps me because she explains the problems that I got wrong so I understand them. I demonstrated the second school wide learning which is mastering skills needed in career and college by taking notes while watching the instructions. Also taking pictures of my notes and putting them into a slide show. I feel like the school wide learning objective that I could’ve worked on a bit more was thinking critically and creatively. Sometimes while watching the lessons or doing the problems that they have in the instructions I wouldn’t use my brain a lot because I would get frustrated and just give up.
Overall the two most important things that I have learned in this class this year are when it comes to math you should never be afraid to ask for help or just never be afraid to ask for help in general. The second most important thing that I learned is to always take good notes that you will understand and that will help you. These skills will help me in the future because I’m pretty sure that in college I’m going to have to take a lot of notes and it’s important that I understand what I’m taking notes of if they’re supposed to help me. Also never be afraid to ask for help because if you never ask for help then you will never help for what you need and you’ll just stay there without understanding/ knowing what to do.
